The Steady Secret to Building a Life You Love
Consistency Is the Quiet Power That Builds Everything
It’s January 1st, and while the world buzzes with the excitement of resolutions and bold plans, I find myself reflecting on something far less flashy but infinitely more important: consistency.
Consistency isn’t glamorous. It doesn’t make headlines or show up in highlight reels. But it’s the quiet force beneath every success story—the steady power that transforms small, deliberate actions into something extraordinary over time.
As I reflect on my path, I want to share my journey with you—because maybe it can encourage you to keep showing up for yours.
I grew up in extreme poverty, moving often, and spending much of my childhood being homeschooled. From a young age, I understood that if I wanted to get anywhere in life, I’d have to create that path myself. That understanding has shaped me and my career. Consistency became one of my core values—it’s what has kept me grounded and driven, even during uncertain times.
It got me from being homeschooled to graduating from UBC—a milestone that once felt impossible. It helped me land a job at Lululemon after attending four group interviews, where I showed up repeatedly because I believed in the opportunity. And it brought me to my career as a trainer.
I’ve now been a trainer for almost 20 years, and while trends come and go, one thing remains constant: results are built on consistent effort. That principle has guided both my career and my approach to fitness and life.
One of my proudest milestones was opening my own studio. It took two years of searching for the right location, writing a business plan to secure funding, and building a brand that felt aligned with my vision. For five years, the studio became a hub for connection and movement—a place where I built a community of people who came not just to work out but to grow together.
Then, the pandemic hit, and everything changed. My landlord sold the space, and I had to close the studio I had worked so hard to create. It was heartbreaking, but consistency carried me through. I leaned into what I could control, pivoted online, and relied on the community I had steadily built on Instagram over nearly a decade of intentional posting and engagement.
Instagram became an essential tool, allowing me to connect with clients, launch virtual training programs, and keep my business alive during one of the most challenging periods of my life.
Last year was a milestone in its own right. After years of preparation, my online program finally came together. It was a labor of love, created alongside my partner in crime, Niki Aucoin (more on her another time!). This program embodies everything I’ve learned over my career, offering accessible, empowering fitness solutions for people everywhere.
In less than a year, nearly 100 people have completed my 8-week strength program, with many continuing to train with me virtually. Watching their consistency has been one of the most rewarding parts of my journey—it’s a reminder of how small, steady actions create meaningful change.
And now, here I am—writing my first New Year’s post on Substack. This feels like another new beginning, another opportunity to build something meaningful. I don’t know exactly where this journey will take me, but I know one thing: I’ll keep showing up.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that consistency isn’t about perfection. It’s about action, even when motivation fades or progress feels slow. It’s about trusting that the small steps add up over time.
So, on this New Year’s Day, I’m not setting bold resolutions or striving for overnight change. I’m committing to the quiet power of consistency—one post, one workout, one connection at a time.
What’s one thing you’re ready to commit to consistently this year? Let me know—I’d love to cheer you on.
Here’s to a year of steady, intentional growth.
With gratitude,
Jenna
